Built-ins Progress Report

Hi friends,

Today I thought I'd share where we are at with the built-ins for our living room fireplace. Not far unfortunately. We've called our favorite carpenters they haven't called us back. Sigh....does this happen to others or is it us? Anyways....we picked up the local paper and called a few local carpenters. Two promising ones have come by and said they'd provide quotes. Fingers crossed. The one I really liked, who had done a lot of similar built-ins, has a waiting list of a few months and I don't know if I can wait!

In the meantime, I need to pick out tiles for the surround. Here are some of the options we are considering.

We could go with classic slate tile. Like in this picture. We have Maple wood in the living room so my concern with this tile would be that it would be too high contrast with the floor.

Or we could do a carrera marble subway tiles like this picture (who doesn't love marble?)

Or we could add some color with glass penny tiles (I do like the idea of adding more color to the room as we have white walls, white trim and pale maple floors)

Or we could go all out and select a patterned tile (although I love the look of this picture I want a look that is versatile and timeless)

Anyways lots to think about. I need to plan a trip up to the design district in Toronto where many of the tile stores are located. Its 45 minutes away from our house and extremely difficult to navigate with two hyper active boys in tow so my windows of opportunity are few and far between.

And for today's parting thought I leave you with this gem:
