Paint Colors for a Basement

Hi friends,

Not only was I able to snap some pics of my sister in law's kitchen over the weekend but I also got to look at some paint options for their basement

Here is what their basement currently looks like:

My sister in law had some paint chips she was considering but it is so hard to tell from a small square of paper what a color will look like on a wall. I have found through painful trial and error that the best way to know for sure that you like a color is to paint test squares on a wall and 'live' with it for a few days (right says my loving husband who repainted our living room 2 times :).

As my brother and sister in law lead busy lives, I have tried to use one of those online paint color programs to model some options for them. Unfortunately, I could not get the Ben Moore one to work but I did get a few Sherwin Williams colors tested before that app crapped out too. Here is what the room looks like with different paint options:

The first is Sherwin Williams Dockside Blue:

I like the blue / brown combo but I think this color might make the room seem dark. Plus I'd like it a little more greyish

Another option is Sherwin Williams Opaline

I really like this pale blue / green color. It's got greyish tones in it so it isn't too bright and circus like.

The next option is Sherwin Williams Lemon Meringue
This offwhite / beige color seems a bit institutional for my liking (it also reminds me of the color that absolutely every wall was painted in our house in the 1980's)

The final option I tried out was this taupe / grey color:

I kinda like this one too (too bad the app stopped working before I got the paint color name!)

Which paint color do you like best? Any suggestions?

My sister in law is also wondering whether to make the space a playroom for her kiddos or a more adult space. Tomorrow I will go through these options in more detail! Stay tuned!

I leave you today with this amusing item:
Thanks for stopping by!
