DIY Festive Chalkboard Art

Hi friends,

Yes - it's true. I got my hands on some chalkboard markers and fun has ensued. I first learned of these from Jen at Rambling Renovators and I couldn't resist trying this myself.

The large chalkboard in our kitchen made a great canvas for trying this out. Here is what I came up with:

Unfortunately, due to the texture on our wall surface, the board is coated in chalk dust. I need to repaint the whole board.

In terms of the design, the hardest part was finding something to help draw the circle for the wreath. I finally used my big wall clock as a template. What I really wanted was one of those large protractors that teachers used to use for geometry on the chalkboard. Remember those? But really anything circular does the trick. Then I softly traced out lines and placement for the letters and went to work filling them in.

I am dying to find other places to use these markers. Watch out windows!

I leave you today with this amusing item:

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I love this! So, I totally have a projector!!! I got one of craigslist for $25 and I LOVE it. I used it to make this giant pride and prejudice quote sign in our dining room. It's the best- totally worth it!

  2. That is SO beautiful! I feel like if I had a chalkboard in my house, i would never get anything done -- I'd just draw things on it, all day.

  3. You did a great job on it. They actually are a little intimidating to draw on. I've only tried online, but I was a bit perplexed as to how to make it look coordinated and yet have different fonts etc.
