Hope the weekend was good to you. Too short for me but not much that can be done about it :)
Recently, I have been giving a lot of thought to small changes that would make our kitchen more to my taste. It has good bones. I like the open concept layout with the island. It's really just the tile, colors and lighting that need adjusting. It wouldn't cost that much or be too disruptive to change these features.
As a reminder, here is what the kitchen currently looks like:
The travertine tile kills me a little bit every time I look at it. So peachy. I really want to add blue glass subway tile, paint the cupboards white and give the kitchen a coastal vibe. However the counter tops need to stay for the time being and the black granite on the island will make this a tough look to pull off. Here is a mock-up I did:
I also tried a brown tile for more of a bistro look. This wouldn't be my first choice but I it's important to work with what we've got and this look might fit better with the existing colors:
And I'd switch the stools too. I love the mid century modern look of the ones we have but upholstered chairs would create a more sophisticated, cohesive look.
What do you think? Any recommendations for improving the look of the kitchen that wouldn't break the bank? Do you prefer the beachy tile or the darker tile?
I leave you today with this amusing item:
