Hope the weekend was a good one. We have one more day to go thankfully. Tomorrow, I am cooking a 16 pound turkey so it will be a busy day full of food preparation, cleaning, and then family.
On the menu is:
- Cornbread, sausage, pecan and apple stuffing (cooked outside the turkey)
- Green beans
- Mashed Potatoes with roasted garlic
- Orange Cranberry Sauce
- Turkey stuffed with lemons and herbs and rubbed in goose fat ( a new product I saw at Loblaws - it sounded luxurious so I thought I'd give it a go)
My sister in law is bringing pie for dessert which is super exciting.
I don't usually host Thanksgiving....but this year I felt I had to carry on the tradition. It will be lovely to have everyone together for the holiday. However, I think I might have to come up with a meal plan that requires less prep time going forward. As a working mom, I savour three day weekends and I have 10,000 things I'd rather be doing then cooking all weekend. I gave serious thought to outsourcing the cooking but ultimately I felt that this was one meal I needed to cook.
We did squeeze a trip to the pumpkin patch with the kids on Saturday. The kids loved it and I was thrilled to see all of the exotic pumpkin breeds they had, I'll share the ones I purchased tomorrow with my Hallowe'en front porch decorations. There are blue pumpkins people! Imagine making a pumpkin pie with those.
Here are some pics from the festivities:
And yes - in addition to family photos with the skeletons there were pumpkin launchers. The boys liked those best of course.
How did you spend your weekend? Did it involve pumpkin launchers too?
I leave you today with this amusing thought:
Sometimes this is true! Thanks for stopping by!
