It just got real!

Hi friends,

It finally happened. We moved. A few hiccups along the way but we made it. And I am so happy with the new place. It feels huge. We've never had this much space. I am used to needing Ikea storage units but am quickly coming to the realization that I no longer need these. I have closets and cupboards and rooms for my storage needs.

Here are some pics from the move:

Check out that truck! My husband drove it. It's amazing that they let people rent those things.

And here is how the kitchen looked when we first got moved in.

It has taken a while to unpack the kitchen as I've had to clean all of the cupboards and drawers and then line them. It's going faster now that this initial stage is out of the way Can you see my color coding system on the boxes? It worked super well for ensuring things got to the right location in the new house.

I'll have some more pics of the new place tomorrow. I have a to do list that is 10,000 miles long so lots of blog posts to come :)

Hip Prints for Boys' new rooms

Hi friends,

Tomorrow is d-day for our move. What am I doing blogging when tomorrow is move day? Good question :)  It's just a quick post I promise.

I have ideas racing through my head as to what we can do with the new place. And I am especially excited about the boy's room because we can really do something fun with them. Bust out some color rather than playing it safe.

I am a total sucker for hip art prints and would love to acquire some of these for the boy's rooms:

Print Choices for the Boys

Unfortunately, a few of these are sold out at the moment....so clearly I am not the only one that covets them. Let's all cross our fingers that they come back into stock.

Midweek Finds

H friends,

It's almost move day for us. We toured the new place tonight and it looks like the sellers are mostly packed up so that was good news. Now we just have to get our final items that couldn't be packed until the end wrapped up and it's all systems go.

Today, I am sharing a few ideas from around the blogoshere that caught my attention.

First, I LOVE this beautiful spring wreath:

For all the details on how to create it check out Jemma's blog 'At Home with Jemma' for all the details on how to create it

Next, this egg tree craft is super cute and would be a fun project to do with the kiddos.

Checkout the Handmade Charlotte blog for all the details

Or how about making this gorgeous rhubarb tart to celebrate spring?

Dream closet

Hi friends,

Today, I am sharing a dream closet idea board that I pulled together. I would seriously die to have a closet like this. To pull clean clothes out of a dryer in my closet - that's the kind of stuff I dream about. That, and an indoor tennis court. But we'll leave the tennis dream for another day.

Today is all about chic wallpaper, ridiculous storage, and cozy seating.

What kind of closets do you dream of ;)

Hi friends,

Hope you had an amazing weekend. It went by fast around here. Still so much to do with our move coming up on Friday. I am excited to start our adventure in the the new place though

Today I am sharing some pretty ideas and photos.

First up, this lovely flower arrangement by my dear friend Luise (with flowers from her garden):

How pretty is that?

Next some photos taken by mom who does a pretty awesome job at capturing wildlife photos.

Can you tell who lives in California and who lives in Southern Ontario? Hard to believe we still have snow and its almost April. I would like a pretty spring garden instead please :)

Easter DIY Do's and Don'ts

Hi friends,

So I thought I'd bring you some Easter do's and don'ts today ;) As you are all getting your Easter crafting on perhaps these tips will be of help. Things are still very busy with packing and work around here so I am living vicariously through this blog and planning all the crafts that I won't be doing. Maybe you'll do some and I can pretend that I had a little part in inspiring you?

As always these do's and don'ts are meant to be fun - and please do let me know if I've got any wrong. Help me help you :)

First up, DO pull together a festive spring centerpiece like this:

DON'T double up on planters in your haste to be festive like this:

DO combine your Easter eggs and spring flowers for extra festiveness like this:

DON'T mix up Easter and Hallowe'en like this:

DO pull together pretty woodland baskets like this:

Fuschia and Teal done 2 ways

Hi friends,

I've entered another contest on Polyvore. The theme is blue and pink art-filled and feminine. To make it a little more fun, I've done two versions.

The first is sort of a dreamy sitting area. I've pulled it together quickly so please excuse the lack of detail. I think that loveseat is so pretty.

Blue fish and pink accents

The second one is a more modern pink living room with a divine amount of storage and art:

Take 2: Pink and Blue
Which do you prefer? I am fan of the second one. Those shelves!

I leave you today with this amusing time item - to lighten the mood a little and start your Wednesday off right :)

Shopping for ideas

Hi friends,

Hope you've all enjoyed this fabulous St. Patrick's Day. I have a little Irish in me (maybe 5-10%) but this year we are taking it easy so please have a green beer for me and tell our Mayor to get back to work if you see him out partying ;)

Today was my last day of vacation before going back to work. My husband and I hit up a few furniture stores for ideas for our new place and went out to lunch. It was a blissful day what can I say.

We went to Liberty Village (man I wish I lived here in my 20's - such a great setup).

We hit up all the usual suspects - West Elm, EQ3, etc but I must say EQ3 really caught my attention.

I adore their Marimekko fabric section - these bold prints are amazing for drapes. I saw a new teal print that might just have to adorn our window in the new living room. Now if I could only sew.

I also found some good rug options for our new family area:

And how cute are these stools?

Finally, this mirror might be the answer for our 2nd floor bathroom:

So lot's of exciting ideas to think about! Can you tell that I am an over thinker when it comes to decor decisions? It's the fear of commitment. But I do enjoy the search so it's all good.

I leave you today with this amusing item on the topic of shopping - unless you are one of the lucky ones and have never seen this kind of thing before :)

Back from Mexico!

Hi friends,

We have returned from our March Break retreat to sunny Mexico. I'd scheduled some posts to run while we were away but didn't want to declare that we were away for house safety reasons. So sorry for not responding promptly to comments - I promise to do that right after this post.

Mexico was just the break we needed with lots of sunshine, good friends, and relaxing. We went to Puerto Vallarta on the West Coast of Mexico at a small all-inclusive called Sunset Plaza Resort. It was great to not have to worry about paying for anything and we had amazing weather.

Below are some pics:

In case you are considering a trip to Puerto Vallerta and want to know more about where we stayed here are my travel notes:

Pros

  • Newish resort (3 yrs old), with modern clean rooms
  • Great pools with lots of umbrellas
  • Sit down restaurants (no buffets)
  • Tennis Court - only one but it wasn't busy and we made good use of it
  • Clean, new gym with treadmills and ellipticals
  • Indoor kids play room (so they could take a break from the sun when needed)
  • Beach front with chairs and umbrellas

Cons

  • Noisy resort next door - made it hard to sleep a few nights (and a few nights our own hotel was noisy too)
  • Smoking section located below all the room balconies (we don't smoke)
  • No kids programming

Overall it was an amazing vacation - we went with friends and that made all the difference. It's just so nice to kick back and catch up.

I leave you today with this thought:
